You have to make the rabbit litter trained and that should be done only by you. Don’t consider this as a casual talk like others or you will be the worst victim at the end of the day. I have already encountered several rabbit owners, have tried to convince all of them about the utility and necessity of proper litter training. While many have listened and emerged triumphant, others have failed to do the same and have suffered to the highest extent. So never repeat the same. Can rabbits be litter trained? Yes they can be since rabbits are very intelligent animals. However the success depends on you and so you have to have forbearance and sense of purpose. Keep in mind that training may take weeks.
How should you begin? From the very outset there is the need of positive reinforcement comprising praise and healthy, suitable treats. Try to be conscious of the cage and its size. Rabbits are basically wild animals so they need enough freedom. This is expressed by their free roaming in own territories. Make the cage four times bigger of its size in any case. Your next obligation is to put the litter box inside of the cage and in the area that it prefers for the toilet purpose. Observe every condition religiously in case of your rabbit. Once it gets the idea what to do with the box, place a few more boxes near the exterior of the cage.
The cage should be cleaned in the alternate days. What can be used for cleaning? Use white vinegar as this is excellent for cleaning urine stains. In addition, opt for chlorine bleach daily for disinfection along with a whiskbroom and dustpan for cleaning. Many owners are found to use newspapers or hay as they do absorb urine. However, they do fail disastrously in controlling odor. So put the newspaper at the bottom of the litter box, put some hay on top to keep the urine away from your rabbit.
This is effective although every rabbit is found to drop pills of waste around outside of its litter box and denotes the area as its territory. Your rabbit may do the same but don’t get nervous. This is its innate nature.
