It is only a rabbit owner knows how difficult it is to medicate a rabbit. Though this may be hard for others to believe, it is a hard reality. There is no doubt in it that rabbits are very soft animals but at times they may become obstinate and the problem starts from here. What can you do then if the rabbit is ill and also obstinate? You have to proceed bit by bit and any hastiness may spoil the entire scenario. So be conscious, self-confident and also resolute. Try to medicate on your own and never involve any other one. It may also not be good for the project.
What is the first step then? You have to find out the best place to commence and complete the procedure. There are many rabbits who are cooperative if they are on the floor and the treatment is done there. On the contrary, many are found to steer clear of the person who is trying to medicate them. If this is the real situation, these rabbits may need to be medicated on a table, a bed, a countertop, or in your lap. If it is on the table, be aware so that there should not be any glasses or knives or even any object with sharp edges.
Never be disconsolate and medicate the rabbit in that mood. Be cheerful, patient and firm always. In addition, the rabbit may perform "rabbit rodeo," complete with bucking, rearing, squealing, and kicking. Remember it is the tension or hurriedness of the owner that makes the rabbit get more stressed. There is the need of entertainment and you can sing songs, kiss her nose and rub her ears at the tome of providing medication.
There is the need of a good routine always and you must develop it. Never forget that you have to do things in the same order, in the same place and on a daily basis. The rabbit also becomes habituated with this procedure and it may stop disturbing. Some people are found to give their rabbits little treats, like a raisin or a big sprig of parsley, after each medication. This is a good process and can divert the rabbit’s attention.
