The habit of keeping pets is as old as the human civilization and tens of thousands of folklores around the globe talk of the same saga. However, a number of changes are betting perceived these days too. While dogs, cats, birds and horses have been everlasting companions of human beings, animals like rabbits are the latest additions. Is it bad? Certainly not! It feels great to find that humans are getting interested of rabbits than ever before and are trying to keep them as pets increasingly. But there is a predicament as well. It is known that a little knowledge is more dangerous than complete absence of knowledge. Try to know of a rabbit prior to its entrance to your residence; this can lessen the chance of any danger in future.
Keep in mind, even though rabbits are found in many parts of the world, they are basically wild animals and hence, they prefer to live in groups. For that reason, instead of bringing one, try to bring 3-4 rabbits into your house at a time. Where are the rabbits found in general? Rabbits, apart from living in meadows, woods, forests, thickets, and grasslands, also live in deserts and wetlands. On the other hand, the greater part of rabbit’s population do reside in North America. Rabbits are also found (in great numbers) in Europe, India, Sumatra, Japan, and parts of Africa.
Rabbits are known for their long ears among human beings and this can be greater than 10 cm (4 in) long too. Again their large, powerful hind legs deserve special mentions. Do you know another striking trait of rabbits? Each foot of a rabbit consists of five toes, with one greatly abridged in size. They, in brief, are digitigrade animals and travel on the tips of their toes.
Nevertheless, wild rabbits do not differ a great deal in their body proportions or posture, with full, egg-shaped bodies. Their size can range anywhere from 20 cm (8 in) in length and 0.4 kg in weight to 50 cm (20 in) and more than 2 kg. Make a note of this too that rabbits are hindgut digesters, indicating that the majority of their digestion happens in their large intestine and cecum. So there can’t be any compromise with their caring.
