Have you ever thought how much an emergency first aid kit is essential for your pet rabbit? You may get confused hearing this for the first time but it’s necessary and highly beneficial. But it will be better for you if you don’t try to find out such first aid kit in any rabbit owner’s residence. Reason? People are yet to realize its importance. Why do you need it then? Remember that emergency can happen any time and if it happens during a holiday or a weekend when your favorite vet is out of the town, you may be in fix. What will you do then?

Have you got the essence of necessity? It may be that the vet is in the town but a fast attendance is needed since rabbit’s health is worsening and the first aid kit can make you remember – a friend in need is friend indeed.

What should be the basic items in the kit? First of all there should be baby food or canned pumpkin to mix. This has to be given when your bunny refuses to eat and it’s quite easy to provide the same through an injection syringe. Try to keep gas medication (Simethicone) in case of a gas emergency. There are in fact various brands in the market and anyone is acceptable including Gas-X. If you want to know more or in detail of the medication as well as for proper dosages log on http://www.bio.miami.edu.

Besides it is always safe to keep basic Neosporin (the non-pain relief type) and can be used easily in case of minor cut or wound. The other essential items are gauze and cotton for the sake of wounds, scissors, syringes of various sizes, saline (for washing out eyes in an emergency), eyedropper (to administer the saline), heating pad and tweezers.

Last of all, rabbits are prone to fleas and these can be treated by an experienced veterinarian only. It should be remembered that certain flea dips can kill your pets.
