How can you tackle a wild baby rabbit?

Any person is admonished if he/she wants to bring any abandoned wild baby rabbit in residence. The foremost reason, behind this, is that wild rabbits are host to fleas, ticks, lice, and other parasites that can communicate disease to humans and domestic animals alike. However, there is another reason as well. Keep in mind that the mother (wild female rabbit) is adept in building nest and visits once or twice a day to nurse. This is a novel strategy of her to keep several adverse factors like predators at bay. Never forget that the baby rabbits are being cared for, if they have complete bellies and hence you should leave the baby where it is.

What should be done if the mother is on the verge of death? It’s, indeed, a critical situation and in that case you should call up your state Wildlife or Fish & Game department or a wildlife rehabilitator straight away. Try to take the help of the familiar veterinarian, in this respect as he is the best person to track down a wildlife rehabilitator. You can certainly take the help of cyberspace or Internet as well in order to find out a wildlife rehabilitation information directory and through it the wildlife rehabilitator within spitting distance. But this is not all and you must know who among the rehabbers are experienced in raising rabbits and are licensed by the state to do so. The work is quite troublesome and rehabbers are selected by the state only.

What should you do if there is any deficiency in the number of rehabbers? Will you leave the baby to die? I know that you, being a generous person, can’t do this. You have to bring the baby in your residence as there is hardly any other choice. Your first task, in that case, is to care for the baby until you get appropriate care approved for it. What type of care should be provided? You can render sweetened condensed milk or fresh goat's milk but never opt for cow's milk. The other processes include tablespoons heavy cream, 3 tablespoons Karo corn syrup, 1 egg yolk along with combined ingredients in a plastic bowl.

Try to use a pet nurser bottle or a feeding syringe or an eyedropper, and do it slowly. Baby rabbits are quite inept and can easily inhale fluid into their lungs. If they aspirate the formula into their lungs, they will die. So be careful. The baby rabbit must be kept in a cardboard box and it’s better if you can place a blanket or old sweatshirt inside for them to nestle into.

Once the wild baby rabbit gets elder and better, handover it to your state Wildlife or Fish & Game department. This is the safest decision. It is not only illegal to domesticate wild animal without proper permission but a wild baby rabbit doesn’t become pet also. They are inherently free and hence do not become good pets.
